Small red spiders in my house how to get rid?
Question:

Hi Sean. Red Spider Mites thrive in a dry atmosphere, so "retaining humidity and moisture is a good way to get rid of spider mites." (1) The accumulation of dust on plants also encourages spider mites, so washing off your plants with a heavy spray of water & misting them will help. Use a humidifier & shade plants from direct afternoon sunlight.
Alcohol, oils, and soaps will either suffocate or dessicate the mites.
Some people use a 1:3 mixture of rubbing alcohol to water, mixture, to get rid of Red Spider mites.
Also try this solution:
1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol (80% or more)
1/2 tsp of a mild liquid dish soap
put in a 25-32 oz spray bottle
Fill with water, shake well.
Or
Murphy's Oil Soap spray:
1/3 cup Murphy's Oil Soap
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 gallon water.
There are also Horticultural oils & Insecticidal soaps to kill mites. "Derived from organic soaps like Castile soap, insecticidal soaps kill mites and other plant pests by compromising their cellular integrity, causing cells to rupture and die. The usual recipe is about 2-3 drops of castile soap for every quart of water." (1)
The gardenweb.com site debates Old Spider Mite Remedies such as the home-made rubbing alcohol/soap/water mix ... Murphy's Oil Soap spray... and...
even a buttermilk solution. (2)
It works for them! They also discuss Safers insecticidal soap, & Neem oil.
If all else fails the most common miticides are Avid, Kelthane, and just about anything that contains pyrethoids.
Hope this helps!
squash 'em! mwa ha ha!! no kidding if you want to be kind catch them in a weee jar thing and release them somewhere
You don't give much information, but you seem to be describing the red spider mite. They are garden pests associated with crops or fruit. If you are growing fruit in your house, or have lots of houseplants, that is what these mites are after.
Ewww we have these too! Look like blood spiders!

Are these spiders in your home, then vacuum them. Are they in your hothouse, then get a natural enemy from your local garden supplier. Also, remember that the red spider mite loves dry conditions, so try to keep the air moister, and keep your plants healthy. They mostly pick on sickly plants.
Teeny red spider-like creatures could be Red Spider Mite: not quite 1mm in length. They can often seem like moving dust, under the leaves of houseplants. They love dry hot conditions, and hate moist cooler conditions.
If you know someone who smokes, you can soak 20+ cigarette butts in a cup of water, for a week or so, and mix with a dash of washing up liquid and spray on them to kill. Otherwise, there are 'miticides' that will do the same - although there is resistance that is spreading rapidly, due to over-use in plant grower's nurseries and elsewhere.
Otherwise, keep plants moist - particularly spray with water every day or so, to wash them off - on the underside of the leaves, which is where they suck sap from the plants: if you have infections, you should see tiny speckles, indicating where they have been sucking the juice out. They weaken your plants, prey on weaker plants, and can give rise to secondary problems, such as infections, of your plants. Remove and destroy badly infected plant material.
There are natural predators to Red Spider Mites that you can buy, members of the Phytoseiulus family, usally Phytoseiulus persimilis. I'm not sure where you are, but these can be purchased online from your own country. UK, for example:

Otherwise, if these are not the likely creatures, such as if they are considerably bigger, you will need to treat as for other spider removal. Spiders typically feed on flies, so keeping flies at bay will be to your advantage. Block any external holes that they could be entering by: also, mabe an adult laid some eggs some time back, which have hatched and are now looking for a new home or out?
I saw this product listed, as a spider deterrent, though haven't used it:

If you've got Red Spider Mite, several successive treatments are usually required, to break the life-cycle of reproduction.
Good luck! Rob
25ml of olive oil to 1 litre of water safe, no messing about. Do not use nicotine to kill pests on plants has some plants will be killed by this horrid substance mainly tomatos, cannabis and auberguines to name a few, the virus that kills them is called the mosaic virus. Check it out dangerous
