Try a mulch of ericaceous compost and water only with either rainwater, or cold tea (for the acidic content). Rhododendrons and azaleas dislike lime or chalk. If you live with that type of soil you might try growing these plants in pots using the appropriate compost, but water as above, not from the tap

check the soil ph,its needs to be between 4.5 and 6,also only use a lime free fertiliser as they hate a limey soil.

Rhodendrum are acid loving plants. Try "Muracid" by Miracle Grow. It is in a blue box. I used it on my azalea bushes because they were having the same problem and they straightened right up.
there are a few points to look at with your rhododendron shrub.
1. if just some of the lower leaves are turning yellow and falling of providing all the other leaves are green this is quite natural as after flowering when the new buds are forming allong with new leaves some of the lower old leaves are shed. 2.lime induced chlorosis.the rhododendrons are an acid loving plant and the presents of lime will cause the symptons you decribe. to cure this problem from the garden centre get some sachetes of chlelated iron or sulphate of iron, this can be watered arround the plants. also mulch the plants with peat and add more peat from time to time.
