Mosquitoes?
Question:Does anyone know of a safe treatment for a yard due to mosquitoes. I don't want to put anything that will harm our dogs. Also we have tried the stuff you hook up to the water hose and spray on the lawn but it's not working so well any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

There are a few options depending where you live: If not in the city get a couple of chickens...sounds goofy but they will eat almost any bug when it is in the grass..we have alot of skitos and ticks here in the woods of Wi and the chickens have knocked the population down greatly around our new house and they can be trained they are actually kinda funny, but not if dogs will chase them. Keep your grass cut low, don't allow standing water drain it or treat it there are safe pesticides that can be put into standing water to kill skito larva before they hatch..even in bird baths, if no choice with ponds and wetlands get a propane fired mosquito generator it produces an attractant and kills the skitos about $300.00 depending on model they look like a fat yard light and work!! I have one out on our patio and when outside entertaining I turn it on and the skitos are gone.
pest control companys have something that kills misquito's but it also kills grass in area. Bats eat thier weight in misquitos every nite at least thats what I heard, dragon flies eat them too. No chem will get rid of them that I know of without hurting something else. Some counties have a truck that will spray for them but not all. Think about building a bat house. They will take up occupancy there and pay rent by eating misquitos
i have used this method for over 5 yrs- place a white saucer in your yard (4 of them if you have a big yard) place one drop of yellow dish detergent (Joy or cheap ones work) in center and fill to the edge with water. You can check the dish in an hour and see all the dead bugs it attracts.
Realistically, you can do everything that you can to remove the breeding places for mosquitoes in your yard, spray what ever chemicals that you want and there will still be mosquitoes, you cannot possibly kill them all and your neighbors might not do anything at all to control them. We know how tough it can be, we have woods with a creek running through them in our back yard.

I'm not sure where you live but down south we hang gourds for purple martins to nest in. These birds are terrific mosquitoe eaters.
Kill them all.
