How to get rid of bees in hedges?

Question:

Answers:
If they are Bees, leave them alone. They are very beneficial. If they are wasps, you have another story and they should be smoke bombed . Call an exterminator if you aren't sure.

pest control
Get rid of the hedge.
Smoke bomb! Or phone an exterminator
Contact bee keepers in your area, they may come and collect them for you or phone the council if they are a problem.
wait until night time then pour petrol on them - burn the feckers thats what i say
There is probably a nest so you can burn it or call the pest control man but that can be expensive
In the UK bees are protected from being killed or moved.

If you are getting wasps then this is different, and you can get your local council to remove a wasps nest, but they charge £50.
Trim off the hedge and spray some pest control on the hive to kill the bees, altho i dont think you should kill the bees. They provide honey for us. i think you should just catch them and put them in a container and take them someplace else like a factory
put a tub of honey in it, they hate the stuff
That all depends on if there's a hive of bees in the hedges or not. If it's just a few bees here and there Raid has some form of spray u could use to rid yourself of them. If it's a hive of bees, i'd say u seek city services as bees are very protective of their home. U could try a smoke bomb as bees become disorented in the presence of smoke. Good luck.
if they are the flowering hedges you must get rid of the hedges. if you notice, those bees aren't hurting anyone. i remember playing around them and being amazed that they would never sting me. i would keep the hedges and feel good that you are contributing to a higher quality of life for the bees.
Bees or wasps? Probably wasps or Yellow Jackets. The best thing is to avoid the hedge, they won't bother you if you don't bother them and they eat other destructive insects. If you must get rid of them be careful, they will defend the nest. Either knock it down with a pole or buy the knockdown spray made for wasps. It shoots a stream of insecticide a long way.

Good Luck , Best Wishes!
wait til at night (all the bees go back to the hive) and spray them with bee killer thats what my dad does every year
Why can't they stay where they are? Are they doing you any harm? There is a terrible shortage of bees at the moment which has a knock on effect on the pollination of our plants etc.
Why don't you just leave them alone. If they are bothering you, then call the council and they will get someone knowledgeable to come and collect the swarm. They are a valued resource.
I am appalled at the ignorance spouted on these pages at times. I hate this attitude of "if it moves, kill it".
You need to scare the bees away, and since bees are deathly afraid of shingles, I think you should throw about 45 shingles at the hedge. This will only work at night, though.
If they are truly bees, then I would leave them be. Bees are very important and valuable little creatures. If it is a swarm of them, a beekeeper would be happy to come out and collect the queen, and thus the colony, to rid you of the problem. If it's hornets or wasps or yellowjackets, that is a different story. In that case it would be pesticide time.
Count yourself special that the bees consider your hedge a good spot to nest. If you are afraid of them, call some beekeeper who would be happy to remove the nest for you. If the bees are just visiting your flowers in the hedge, then they will go away when the flowers drop. But, do not kill them, It´s against the law. And they are good, helpful creatures, when left alone. We had a bee population choose our only tree in the yard right next to the washing line to build their hive. So my dad called a friendly beekeeper who was thrilled at having a new hive full of bees.
Some great and some not so great answers so far. Loved the petrol answer. Kill the shrub, plant, and soil at the same time!

Bees will be attacted to flowering shrubs. If your "hedge" is such they are bees. Wasp will build a nest then swarm. Check the perimeter of you house for a wasp nest. This can be under the eaves of your home or a neighbors. Check your trees for any sap running. This will naturally attract either.

With a hose end sprayer spray with a solution of Sevin and Liquid Ivory Dish Detergent at dusk. Spray the entire plant from top to the soil level. Use the minimum level of the manuf rec. of the Sevin and 0ne tblsp per gallon of the Ivory. The Ivory will coat the plant and any insect. The Sevin (found in most Dog/Cat collars) is a knock-down and out chemical for the bees. Spray from a distance and do a gentle spray versus a full blast.
This combination will help the planting in the future months to resist other pest. You can spray the Ivory solution alone about every six weeks. Add the Sevin again in late August at the earliest. When safe, check for any nest in the hedge itself.
If one exist leave it alone, however, continue the spray.
In the late fall, prune the shubs back. In the later fall remove any nest you may have found. If you find the nesting area to be attached to your home contact a Profession ASAP. If it is your neighbor, well, do as you can. The same spray can be used if your trees are in sap. Good Luck.
Sevin will work- but you have to use the dust. Cover the hedges with as much dust as you can (get into the inside). The dust gets caught in their wings, so they take it back to the nest and then kill the nest.
Contact a pest control that specifically handles Bees. He will remove the Queen which may run the hive off. Once the queen is removed, some treatment can be applied - those bees which don't die will move on.

Do not leave this hive in place - bee hives are not a beneficial contribution in any garden. The hive will only get bigger, more aggressive and more expensive to remove. (Visiting bees yes, but hives must be removed in the U.S. due to the killer bee interbreeding.)

Specifically ask the pest control if they are licensed to remove bees. And get a guarantee so they will return if activity continues..
Leave them bee !
Wasps are another matter though !
leave the bees alone .if they r wasps get a can of hair spray lit it up; flame thrower burn the suckers wings great fun
If it's a nest of bees call a local bee keeper he will be pleased to get another hive, if it's just bees in the hedge why would you want to get rid of them, they don't do any harm, they pollinate plants, they rarely sting (unlike wasps), so leave them alone.
Call a beekeeper - or the local council
It's illegal to destroy a bees nest!
