Who can I hire to drill a 1" hole through a big boulder?
Question:We are constructing a fountain for our garden and the centerpiece is a big rock which is too heavy to move more than a few yards. We want to hire someone todrill a hole through this rock, which is about a foot thick. Is there any profession out there which can do this on a mobile basis? we don't want to move the rock to the person, we want the person to come here.

You can rent a drill that will to that. They will provide the right bit (masonry bit). I suggest calling around to equipment rental companies and asking the question. It is easy and will take you no time at all. They are about the size of a small jack hammer. Most people can lift it and it is easy to operate. These are used to cut drain holes through curbs to get excess landscaping water from the yard to the gutter.

You can rent a hammer drill from a home store and do it your self. If that is not a option call a plumber or a stone mason. Also try the Handi man Section in the phone book or local paper.
Cutting and Coring can do this if you have one in your area. Check the yellow pages under coring or drilling.
