When fighting weeds, mostly field grasses, what would be the best edging material - a deep cement trench?

Or they have both plastic and metal barriers ranging from 6" to 4', depending on the root system you may just need a 6" edging.
When fighting weeds I like to weed whack the area, put down a weed mat (sheets of material that water will go through) and then cover it with bark mulch. It looks good and no weeds grow.
