I live on 5 acres, what makes perfect round holes in the ground? (I know it is not a gopher)?

Question:it is about a 1 1/2 dia perfect round with the dirt to the side.

Answers:
if the dirt is pushed to the side, its a mole.

could be snakes... depends on where you live what kind of critters would be around. ask some neighbors, people at the hardware store etc.
sounds to me you have a mole -- you know the little black thing with no eyes
if it isnt a gopher, then its prairie dogs.
If there are no sizable mounds associated with the activity, it sounds like a vole to me. Moles will heave up larger areas and create some fairly sizable mounds, about 12 inches across and 3-6 inches high. Voles are the size of field mice and cause great damage to plants, especially those that grow from corms and bulbs. Moles only eat worms and grubs. Voles are the bane of my existence. Hopefully global warming will cause their extinction.
