What equipment would you recommend for clearing land?
Question:Have land that need's clearing, no big rush, what would be a good piece of equipment to buy. Not thinking of a full size bulldozer but a smaller thing, appreciate your advice.
Answers:
If there are trees, a chain saw, if there are bushes, a bushhog, it is like a big lawn mower that can be rented. Getting up stumps takes one of these big rotary cutters. If you really want to go all out, get a crawler tractor with a dozer blade.
Chainsaw to remove trees. I have cleared many lots (leaving large trees) with a push mower. If you have an old push mower slam it into the underbrush and make a clearing them work out from there. I have also cut stumps down by using my mower raise it up and come down gently on the stump gringing it away as you go.
Rent something, don't buy.
if you are talking removal of old fences, tree stumps and vegetation, a small dozer is the way to go. a cat d3 or d4 or John Deere 450 is fine. they have scarifies or rippers to help remove stumps and similar stuff. you can rent a small dozer for $300 a day (8 hours), transport to site $100-$200. I have found that the younger clerks at the "action rentals" type places will run the equipment for you for $10-$20 per hour. an experienced operator will grub an acre in less than an hour. you will need to refuel the tractor.
Not sure what type of land you have, or what is one it. That would help. Also is it flat. What state are you in? I ask this because sometimes you can not take everything out. Laws and so on...
The cheapest way is to kill everything and then turn it into the soil. Not the best for the environment.
You can rent tractors, and just take a backhoe...
Some goats?
They like fruit trees ..(caution)
a chainsaw for the trees, a bushhog for the undergrowth, and top it off with weed killer. not one that kills everything.. just one that kills weeds and such! good luck
