Mushroom compost for gardenia?

Question:The soil has a some clay, I was told to add soil conditioner and mushroom compost , by the nursery that sold me to gadenia. Now I read online NOT to add mushroom compost as gardenias prefer acidic conditions. Now I'm more confused than ever. I am planting the gardenia in a bed of azaleas which love acidic soil too,

Answers:
Mushroom compost is only slightly alkaline, so it probably won't hurt your acid-soil-loving gardenia. The person who advised you to use mushroom compost was not thinking about the slight alkalinity, they must just like mushroom compost. To be on the safe side though, I would add a different kind of compost, like good ol' barnyard or steer manure and peat moss - peat moss is acidic.

my gardenias are in a clay soil with a really good mirecle grow soil mix they like acidic soil they would be great with azaleas... give lots of water and a great fertilizer and will be fine,
