Beer does work, but there is a new product on the market called diatomaceous earth. It is a powder which consists of crushed fossil shells. You just sprinkle the powder around the lettuce and throughout the bed and as the slugs and snails crawl across it, it shreds there bellies and they dehydrate and die. This stuff works great on any insect or pest with no outer skeleton, like ants, crickets, earwigs, cockroaches, etc. It is so organic that it is safe to eat, however, I wouldn't try it! I use this every year around my hostas, which always attract every snail and slug within a ten mile radius! Good Luck!
If you put some beer into a bowl they will crawl in and drown they could be considered somewhat alcholic
Seriously; put out some small bowls of beer. They drown in them; toss em away and start over.
salt em! no mercy! the beer thing works better if you dig a hole and put the cup in the ground...it's a sad way to die though...
Your best bet? Get some frogs!! They eat about 40 a night!
Save the beer and use Beneficial Nematodes! They control all kinds of insects in your yard and garden! And it's an all-natural remedy!

Do not use salt as that changes the ph balance in your garden...some plants don't do well in salty soil!
To get rid of the slugs you should put some beer or water+yeast in a flat container overnight in the garden (the slugs are attracted by the yeast). When you get up in the morning before the sun has risen see if any slugs have fallen in the trap(if yes through or kill them).Repeat this every day until you get rid of them.
