What is the best way to get rid of gophers in my backyard?

Question:These gophers are distroying my plants

Answers:
We found the best defense is putting castor beans in the hole along with gopher bombs (smoke bombs you can find at a garden center). Hosing them out with water just causes erosion and doesn't reach their nests.
When you plant, use a cage made from hardware cloth (1/4") and sink it at least 14 inches down.

Are you a hunter? :) Put a garden hose down a hole and flood them out
Trap them and then kill them with a shovel. That's what I do. Where there's a fresh mound dig down to open the tunnel. Set your trap in it, cover the opening across the top of the ground with a board, be sure you attach a wire to a stake to the trap so the gopher can't run off with your trap. In about an hour go check your trap and you should have a catch. Bye-bye gopher!
Our golden retriever loves to hunt those things and is very good at keeping our yard gopher free. If you don't have a dog, then rent the movie caddy shack and you'll get plenty of tips from Bill Murray
All I can suggest is to soak some cotton balls in Castor Oil and shove them down their holes. Gophers and moles hate Castor Oil as much as children do.
what kind of plants
try moth balls and/or traps
The little wind mill things placed throughout your yard..They will give enough vibaration to ward them off.move them around ever so often
dynamite
Anything that will kill the grub worms will also discourage the gophers. That is what they are there to eat. A trip to your local garden supply will tell you what you need to do.
try using juicy fruit chewing gum this works on moles or gophers one i cant rembere .all you have to do is put it out by there hole.
you can get the cage traps and bait it with chunky peanut butter. You have to check the traps often. When you get one, shoot it (in the cage) with a bb gun or drown it in a tub of water.

We used the trap and bb gun method. No poisons or smoke bombs were necessary. It took about 4 weeks total, but we caught over 34 and the problem is now...no problem.

good luck
Put chili powder around the plants, that absolutely works.we have kept rabbits, deer, birds, everything away. You have to do it after it rains for awhile, but then it soaks in and as the plants grow bigger, they all stay away--cats, too. I've tried everything else and this really works.
