If I were to build a mold from wood to make a stepping stone, would grease work as a release?

Question:

Answers:
You can use any oil or grease as a form release. Clean motor oil would probably leave less residue than grease on the finished product.

yes, so would soap.
Sure, but I'd melt paraffin on the wood first with a heat gun or propane torch. A layer of grease after that, it should come out really slick.
spray pam
A lot of concrete guys don't coat their molds with anything. Just wet them down before you put the concrete in (that will prevent the wood from absorbing the concrete and also prevent the wood from sucking moisture from the concrete before it has time to cure properly) and then they should just pull away. You CAN use wax, but it's unnecessary. Be careful using anything that will leave a stain on your new stepping stone (grease, for example).
Just use water. In other words, prior to pouring the concrete, wet the forms with water. Once the concrete sets, tap the forms with a hammer and they should release.

There is form oil which is like diesel fuel that is sometimes used to treat the forms prior to a pour but once again, it is not necessary. Just wet the forms.

Good Luck!
You can use any of the other methods but if you want "fair faced concrete you need to use release oil and a vibrator.
You can use kerosene and used oil
Grease will work just gently tap the form as you are filling.
As the edges appearances are not that important it doesn't really matter.
