I would like to take my kids to see the cidadas. We live west of Milwaukee. Does anyone know where some are?

Question:We drove through an area north of Chicago but didn't have time to stop. I'd like to see them up close and have the kids experience this. Since they won't be back for 17 years, this is an event to remember! Are there any areas in the Milwaukee area that anyone knows of?

Answers:
well it depends where you live may be in yur area you don't have cicadas but in my area in the suburbs of illinois hickory hills there are a lot of cicadas in the forests and woods. so if u come around that area your kids will see the cicadas
hopefully they get a chance to see the cicadas

Actually, there are different kinds of cicadas. Some only come out every 17 years like you say, but there are some who come out every 13 years and some that come out annually.

As for finding some, I'd suggest checking a phonebook for a nearby forest park or reservation and asking there. Some places even have events set up for cicada watching.

Hope that helps, even a little. : )
Not in the Milwaukee area that I know of (I'm from Milwaukee), but I know that Chicago suburbs and all throughout Northern Illinois seem to be heavily infested. I'd head South, maybe to some of the small Chicago suburbs like Woodstock or Antioch or Crystal Lake that are surrounded by farmland and forest, or go to one of the forest preserves near Chicago. Best time to go is around now, as most 17-year cicada infestations die out by the end of June. Hope this helps!
hi.from my understanding the cicada's hit Lake Geneva kind of hard and are currently invading the Dells.my hubby heard on the radio that they have to close some of the campgrounds because it is so bad.hope this helps
here in north texas we have cicadas every summer.

come on down!
