Firstly read as much as possible about the bee-keepers art. If you are able, contact local bee-keeper (or bee-keepers association) and talk to him/her about your interest. They are all very helpful and eager to spread their knowledge. If you can visit a bee-keeper at work, you will learn a great deal in a short time. Starter colonies can be obtained via private means or commercial companies, these are small groups of Queen and workers, ready to begin a new home in your hive. The Queen will be prevented from leaving your hive, while the workers build the new colony. There are different varieties of hive bees, seek advice/research on this and available food/water sources for proposed hives. That, very roughly is it. Too large a subject for a message board - good luck.
are you allergic to beestings?

.

that was a serious comment XD
