Why is it bad to water the grass during the day?
Question:Just want to know.
Answers:
"Evaporation"... is the key word here! the only problem is that the water evaporates to fast is all! the whole thing about "it'll kill ur grass" is a bunch of cr@$! just give it an inch a week and it'll do just fine....anytime of day!
The drops of water on the grass. magnify the sun rays and burn the grass.
Because it wastes water... A lot of the water never even reaches the ground.
I think this also has to do with water conservation..during the day the sun evaporates a lot of the water so the lawn doesn't get to absorb it all.
I think that we're discouraged from watering during the hottest part of the day to avoid evaporation of the water before it can penetrate the soil.
if its mid day where the sun is hot it is not advisable as thid could cause sudden change in temperature that would cause to the abnormality on your grass' chlorophyll, thus destroying its leaves.
Grass should be watered for about half an hour three times a week. If you water in sunlight, most of the water evaporates before it can reach the roots, so what you're doing is watering the surface and weeds with shallow roots. It's best to water in early morning, when the plants begin to open to the light. Don't water plants in the dark if you can help it.
It really does the grass no good when watering in the heat of the day. The roots are what need the water and with the heat of the sun beating directly down on the grass, the water is evaporated too quickly either directly off of the lawn or through the leaf blade.
It is better to water in the early morning so the water will have time to get to the roots and be absorbed by the grass before the sun takes it all away.
You don't want to water in the evenings either as this makes the ideal source for fungus' to occur.
Hope this helps!
watering grass during the day drys out and rots the roots,at nite the air is cool and keeps the roots damp and soft and feed better
Watering during the day can cause the reflection of the sun on the water to burn the blades of grass. The little water droplets on the blades can act as a small mirror and reflects the light from the sun. It is best to water either first thing in the morning or the afternoon to avoid the direct rays of the sun.
Hello
SSSHHHH, its actually a small white lie that watering anything during the day is going to burn the foliage of the plant. Throughout the country all of your big company growers like Heinz Nursery (not the ketchup), Monrovia, B&B Trees, etc actually water in the heat of the day on hot days just to cool the plants off and keep them from getting sun scortch or wilting. At the nursery I currently work at we water there area's of the shrub yard that get hit by the sun all day usually around 2 in the afternoon and for a longer period of time so it waters and cools the plants. Although it is always good to water in the morning or evening to prevent evaporation and not to waste as much water.

If it is hot outside, then the water would evaporate instead of sinking in.
