We have a gravel driveway and grass is taking over - how do we get rid of it?
Question:We live in a rural area and our driveway is gravel. We have had tons of rain in the past two months and the grass is taking over the gravel. We have tried every weed and growth killer on the market and it still pops back up. Any suggestions for killing the durn grass in the gravel?
Answers:
use gasoline it burns them to pieces and if that doesn't work you could find a big piece of black plastic or fabric and lay it over the driveway and pour the gravel over it to hide it, the heat will kill the weeds for you.
Tri-Ox weed killer (I believe Ortho makes it) will kill ANYTHING it touches, and will sterilize the soil. I had a rock retaining wall in my back yard some years ago (a rental house) and that absolutely NAILED the weeds.
vegitation killer I think Lowes sells it..
to a gal of strong vingar add one oz orange oil and a squart of dish soap spray on grass
roundup works good for me,spray on an windless day, drown it. It works best on hottest days. Or the old way pull it out by the roots. good luck
deisel fuel in a srayer
Use something like Roundup. It is systemic, and kills all the way to the roots. Don't get any on the grass in your yard, because it will kill everything you get it on.
You can get it in a spray bottle to keep around when they start to grow back. It's easier to keep up with them than to let them grow back and start all over again.
All the answers you received so far will do the trick, however mine I think works the best. Go to a Southern States Store or a Farm/Hardware. Ask them for concentrated generic Round Up. Get yourself a one gallon sprayer and read the directions. Use the recommended rate, yes the recommended rate and add the material to your spreader and one gallon of water. Shake the sprayer up and spray on grass and weeds. Within a week they will die. Be careful where you spray as this material will kill anything green. It is not harmful to pets or other domestic animals. Don't use the sprayer for anything else except grass and weed control. Good luck.
ROUND UP..it works great!
Yes you could spread poisons or contaminants all along your driveway, or you could fix it the correct and responsible way.
When grass starts to grow up through the gravel, it is time to spread more gravel. It has become too thin to serve its purpose and a new layer, 2 to 3 inches, will restore it to its proper depth.
A load of gravel (enough to do about 100 feet of driveway) should go for around $80 and can be spread by the dump truck, then raked out in an afternoon.
It's also a good workout.
you can get some weed and grass killer at ur local walmart tht should take care of it!
