My jasminium polyanthus has started to wilt (HELP)!!! Jasmine plant ...?
Question:I planted a lovely jasmine plant about a month ago,in a sunny /shady spot . It has been doing really well untill now .Its started to wilt from the top down a little way. It has had plenty of water and feeding . And lots of rain the only thing out of the ordinary that has happened is a hanging basket fell on it ! It didnt brake it or injure it . so im at a lose . I really love this plant and theres still new shoots growing but i just dont know why its wilting. Please could someone help with their opinion. many thanks x

Jasmine plants like getting dry roots every now and again. When we lived in South Africa, our jasmine literally thrived in the drought conditions. When we moved to Germany, I sucessfully killed two jasmines by overwatering. Now I rather wait a day or three and let the soil dry out. They don´t mind full sunshine or semi-shade, you can even skimp on fertiliser, but keep them on the dry side. So. keep the fertiliser and watering can away for two weeks or even more. With this rain we are having at the moment, your poor plant is likely to drown!.
I don't think jasmine likes a lot of water, it needs to strive to survive, sort of thing.
Are the wilting leaves discoloured?
How big is the plant? How fast has it grown to its current size?
What was planted where it is now? Did you add compost when you planted it - what sort? Are you feeding it? What with?
The leaves that are wilting, are they on a branch that has been broken wen the hanging basket fell on it,, if so then thats the reason,,
I have a Jasmine climbing up my wall in my front garden,, its absolutely beautiful,, and lasts all ova winter with the flowers,, it only gets watered wen it rains and is in full sun during the afternoon, eve,, it seems 2 thrive,, and occasionally it gets fed with miracle grow. It also gets a real good cut every year,, we cut it rite bak rite 2 ground level pretty much,, and it still comes bak bigger and beta each year,, it is now approx 8 yrs old..
Dig it out and look for small maggot type grubs about 1/3 an inch long among its roots. If you find these it is vine weevil. You can get a nematode to control these from several biological control suppliers.
