How do I save Tomato plants?

Question:I live in Utah. I was given the assignment to water my neighbor's plants, and when I went to water them one morning, they were wilting and dry. I gave them enough (but not too much) water, and let them be. The next day, they weren't any better.that's how they were when I got there, but I'm afraid they're going to blame me for killing them (hahaha). Got any tips??

Answers:
Try watering them in the evening, instead of the morning. My dad who always had a huge garden always watered plants in the evening to keep the heat and water from steaming the plant, and we always had a huge plants. If they are in pots, don't over water them. Tomatoes, if over watered, when they ripen, will burst from too much water in them. If something does happens to them, don't worry, you did what you were told. Good luck

well, if its reallllyyyy hot you probably should water them more than once a day...and if you have fertilizer, it might make them do better...i use Peter's Plant Food.
If the soil is really sandy they can dry out a lot quicker than in rich black midwest soil. So watering them frequently is a must when they are smaller. I had one plant that wasn't doing so well, and I watered it every evening, and now it is dong fine. You want to water it enough so there is a little pooling on the top, it will soak in. Wind and sun are not kind to small tomato plants until they get strong. You could also take some gallon milk jugs and cut the top and bottom on and set it around the plant until it gets stonger.
are they in containers? if so they will require more water than ones in the ground..water in the EARLY morning or in the evening if they are in a container they may actually need to be watered more than once and give them a heavy drink at night..you can also give them a drink of B-1 vitamins it will help the root system, 1 TBL per gal of water.but only once a week.
