Which plant will grow from seed quickly in a pot outside on balcony?
Question:and be somewhat thick.Dont care if it has flowers or is pretty or not just to have some foliage to block smoke and polution from coming inside open screen window here.Mild-mod climate I will water it regularly but dont want to bring it inside in winter when it will be mostly above freezing with occasional below freezing nights-I can put them closer to the building in those times

Grass. if you like that kind of thing. simple lawn grass grows well. we grow it on our balcony for our cat who we dont let outdoors but still needs the grass in her diet. sounds silly but it actually looks quite nice

Well, It's kind of impractical, but I remember as a kid I would grow sunflowers out of cups and pots and anything really. They grow pretty quickly if I remember correctly. So, you might give sunflowers a try.
