Venus fly traps?

Question:I have always wondered about this question.. plants dont need to eat food like we do. they produce food internally; Photosynthesis. This is what we are told in schools. Then why does the venus fly trap exist? Does this not go against the theory? does this mean that the plant is a 'meat eater'?

Answers:
Venus fly traps aren't really meat eaters, they are simply insectivorious. basically they evolved in bogs where the soil was extremely low in nutrients (all plants need nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) so they evolved traps to provide them with a way to catch insects, which could then give them these nutrients they lack. The sun can't provide them with everything they need. Kind of cool, huh?

yeah it goes against the theory because the VFT is a carnivorous plant. They eat meat.
