How do I install bermuda grass sod if there's grass seeded already in my backyard?

Question:Just bought a house and the back yard is seeded with Bermuda grass. I understand I have to kill the existing grass, then lay the sod. Anyone with experience doing this know the best way to do it?

Answers:
If your putting Bermuda sod down and it's been seeded with Bermuda sod why would you have to kill the existing sod? Has the seed started to come up? If not just cover it with the cut sod. One thing also is to learn how to maintain Bermuda its one of the best lawns but it takes alot of work. Did you know you need to cut Bermuda with a reel mower? Every fall it turns brown and goes dormant. Then every spring you need to aerate then put down a Pre-emergent herbicide. In any balding areas but sand down. Like I said alot of work but Bermuda is one of the best looking grass.

When my parents did their yard (years ago) they dug up the old grass. It was a lot of work, but man did their yard look so much better afterwards! My hubby and our family just moved in to a house that had been recently sodded and they did not do it properly. It was not rolled afterwards very well, so it's lumpy in areas. I would suggest rolling it a lot. Good luck with your project!
Hello

Well you not only have to kill the existing grass, you need to remove all of it. To go about doing this would be to spray your yard down with isopropylamine salts and glyphosate salts (Round Weed n Grass Killer) It allows u to seed 2 weeks after spraying. So once you kill it all you can go ahead and rip it all up down to bare dirt and then lay out ur sod, time permiting. Reguardless you must remove all the material down to bare dirt you can not just throw down new top soil. It's a little bit of a process but deffinetly worth it.

Yes, however, the growths of both will intertwin. It will be a mix of the two grasses. Do not kill the grass unless you really only want one type of grass.
Just put it over it. It wont hurt a thing in my opinion.
