Which are the best herbs to grow together in one container?

Question:Looking for three or four herbs, fairly easy to maintain?

Answers:
One of my favorites would be the spaghetti herb box, which would include sweet basil, greek oregano, parsley, and rosemary

Fill a box with lemon verbena, lemon balm, chamomile, lime balm, and cinnamon basil for a Tea Time box.

For a Medicinal Box,, include dill and peppermint to calm sooth indigestion, yarrow for temporary bandage for cuts, sage for sore throats, and aloe to put on minor burns.

Herbal Vinegars Box - Dill, lemon balm, chives, tarragon are just a few examples. An all-time favorite is lemon dill vinegar for vegetables.

Grillin' and Roastin' Box - Plant some lemon verbena for fish and chicken, tarragon for chicken, rosemary for pork and beef, sage for poultry, dill for fish, thyme and oregano for beef.

I have had good luck with combinations of basil, oregano, sage, and rosemary together in one large planter. I have also grown lemon balm, mint, and basil together. All herbs need full sun to do well. There are several different varieties of basil available: purple-leaf, lemon, etc. They are not only great for cooking but are attractive as well.
Remember what your needs are... cooking, fragrance, etc., then think of what the conditions are...shady, hot and sunny, etc. Usually, culinary (cooking) herbs need sun and warmth. I would recommend a good basic mix for now: Parsley, Basil and Thyme. Even though Parsley is a biennial ( flowers the second year and dies back) the Basil a tender annual ( dies in cold weather) and Thyme a perennial ( comes back year after year) You can keep adding plants each year as you find what you like. Give them plenty of sun and room to grow ( a 16-inch pot to start), and water regularly, cutting back often, and you will have lots of fun from your herb pot!
I planted a strawberry pot or pocket planter for Cathy for Mothers Day. I have purple and lemon Basil, creeping Thyme, Oregano, Parsley and a couple of others I can't remember just now, seven different varieties in all.

You could plant a pizza planter with Basil, Oregano and other herbs used in Italian cooking.

You will also want to pay attention to the height of the plants. In my haste at the garden center when picking out the plants above, I picked out some that will eventually grow to 36", so now I have some other herbs growing in a couple of places.
