Spinach also grows well, likes a bit of shade if it's extra hot though.
Heat-resistant varieties of lettuce do well, they don't bolt/grow a seed stalk immediately.
Corn does really well too.
Okra comes to mind.
tomatoes
bellpeppers are very easy to grow in hot weather if you keep them in partial shade and water them regularly.
My family garden has tomatoes, chives, basil, and cucumbers growing every year.. and we usually get alot, every year. Few plants.. we have like 4 tomatoe plants, 4 cucumbers, 2 chives, etc. Water them every night.. not too much, but enough to last all morning/afternoon the next day in some moderate sun. Ive watched my mom garden for about 4 years now.. getting the hang of it :)
almost all plants need the heat and sun to grow. check out your local Home Depot garden center or nursery.
All of the above , + melons, squash, corn, beans, cucumbers, eggplant, tomatillos.
ps versantly , the Home Despot? I know they try to cater to the beginner, but those kind of places are the WORST places to go for the novice. Lots of traps, that can lead to disappointments, and a less satisfying gardening experience ( than what you should have) . Stressed , dead & dying plants, inferior varieties, poor quality specimens, things inappropriate to the area, many very overpriced plants and supplies (contrary to advertising), bad advice, no advice, limited selections that leave you with 2nd & 3rd choices , instead of the exact right thing, etc, etc, etc. (hfghss...) ,don't go there, until you know enough to negotiate that minefield , & find the diamonds in the dump.
depends where you live. when i lived in Tucson, we grew apples specially hybred for very hot climate. apricots does well, so do pomagranates, peaches, nectarines and mission figs. the best peaches i've ever had came Palmdale Calif-the high desert area. veggies like squashes did well, so did tomatoes(although they did get ripe faster than in cooler climate), beans, cabbage, almost anything.
In Ca. we grow tomatoes, bell peppers,carrots,watermelons,as... potatoes. Now I know they can grow in the heat,it gets to 105 here in the Summer...
