How to sell a black walnut tree?
Question:I have a very large, straight black walnut tree in my yard, it is free from visible blemishes etc ... I would like to get some timber buyers out to my place to look at it ... but I am having a heck of a time finding any. I live in Michigan and it seems like most of the buyers I've found online are only interested in 75+ trees at a time. Local tree services and the MSU extension office have not been helpful. Does anyone know of a good source where I can find small scale timber buyers in Michigan?
Answers:
It's true...most loggers won't come out for a single tree. The costs they incur to move equipment to your place (gas, loaders, trucks, etc.) won't make it worthwhile for one tree.
Even so, a well grown, straight trunked, 200 year old tree can sell for tens of thousands of dollars http://faculty.ucc.edu/biology-ombrello/...
But, your best payoff may be enjoying the beauty of such a wonderful tree in your yard.
I never heard of anyone trying to sell a single tree before
