What can I plant in my yard this time of the year that will do well?

Question:I am in Central NC, the temperature here is crazy. It was in the 60's last week and this week it is getting up to 97 degrees. I am looking to put the plants in an area (in front and against the house) that most people put shrubs/bushes. It is in direct sunlight until late in the evening.

Hi from SC. There are lots of things you can plant. Gerbera Daisies, Osteospermum (african daisies - glorious), verbena, New Guinnea Impatiens, zinnias, cosmos, coreopsis, chrysanthemums, petunias, calla lillies, canna lillies, day lillies, cypress vine, honeysuckle, jasmine -- all sorts of things.

try some ornamental grass and begonias. the red ones with green leaves are the only ones that thrive in the sunlight. if you dont like that, then find a nursery and go look at what they have.
marigolds!
Anything that is in a pot. It is too late to start seed, but you can plant anything already in a container.
I say plant some maryjane and enjoy.
