I have some azalea bushes that won't bloom. What could be wrong?
Question:I don't really know the history of the plants, I've only lived here two years. But theres about 2 or 3 bushes in a row beside the house that don't bloom. On the other side of the porch there is one azalea bush that does bloom, so I don't think it's the soil. I don't know if someone once mowed them down or what...we are thinking of digging them up but we have nothing else to put there and we wonder is there anything that we could try to make them blossom (I know it's too late this year). Any ideas what could be wrong?

Try feeding them with food especially for azaleas. Always prune the azleas right after blooming (or in your case after what should be the blooming season, as this is the time azaleas begin the process for blooms next season.) Never prune any later than at this time. Also, azaleas love to be watered but hate for their roots to stand in any water so make sure they are in raised beds with excellent drainage. For some reason, they also do much better when they face the North. You may also need to work azalea or rose soil in and around the plants. This will also help them to bloom. Good luck. There is nothing more beautiful than an azalea in full bloom.
Give them a small trim.
Maybe they don't get very much sunshine and they are a bit cold.
Try trimming them.
My first reaction was to test the soil... how far away are the others? It wouldn't hurt to test it. Also, have you tried fertilizing them? I hope this helps.
try feeding them and make sure they get enough water and they may bloom in the fall, mine bloom spring and fall but I have to put extra water and feed them. they have azalea food in any garden department.
Make sure to prune your azaleas right after they bloom. They begin to store all of their energy for the blooming season the following year.
The one clue that I took note of was that you said you had one azalea that bloomed on the other side of the house. It would appear to me that it would indicate that they are in two opposite exposures to the sun. Obviously the other side of the house is the right exposure. Maybe where they are located now is just too shady and they do need some acid plant food to show good blooms if the soil is too alkaline.
Maybe you should use some bran muffin mix for fertilizer...
=^p
Cut them short and water them, if they still dont grow, put them in sunlight.
Ok, here is where I go when I have any questions about my garden and flowers. Everyone is very nice and there is a ton of info about all kinds of flowers including azalea bushes. I just bought one myself this year and it bloomed in the spring and I don't believe that it is supposed to bloom again until next year. But a lot of the people at this website have been growing them for years and so have more experience than I.
