Help with gardening?
Question:My 4 year old planted a Marigold plant & a cucumber plant in school. They were planted in clear plastic cups. I was told byher teacher that they need to be planted outside soon. I don't even know how to begin. Do they need a lot of light or water? Do I take them out of the plastic cups? I am not even close to being a plant person!! I need help!! I don't want my daughter's first plants to die. She would be devastated. Also, I have a dog (not a digger), and possibly a bunny living in my backyard. Any tips ? Thanks for any help given.

Marigolds full sun to partial shade. Cucumbers do best in full sun, water as needed, once a week to start totally saturate soil ( till water is just starting to stand) at first as summer comes on you will need to water a little more frequently. I like to mulch my cucumbers with cypress or pine bark mulch to keep the weeds down and to help retain moisture. A trellis is a very good idea also, and yes any plants that you plan to put in a garden, etc. remove from the plastic container or they will become root bound this will restrict growth and eventually kill the plant. In additon when you remove the plants from the plastic container gently seperate the roots this will help the plants to set there roots and thrive. Potted plants can become root bound as well and need to be trans planted occasionally.
They like sunshine. The cucumber plant will need a lot of room - it's a vine-like plant. Definitely remove them from the plastic cups!
+The marigold is a flower that should be planted in full sun. loosen the soil add some garden mix or composted manure, remove from cup and plant.then water.
The cucumber is a vine and should be planted in composted manure and garden mix.I plant mine next to a trellis and let them climb to save space. they like alot of water.
They should do fine, good luck.Oh and remove the cucumber from the cup too.
