Would like a climbing wendy cousins rose. tried to get propogated but no luck yet. HELP PLEASE?
Question:WENDY COUSIN CLIMBER IS VERY VIGOROUS ROBUST PLANT AND WOULD LOVE TO GET ONE. HAVE TRIED HORTICO WITH NO LUCK SO FAR. ANYBODY A SKILLED ROSE GRAFTER? I KNOW IT CAN TAKE APPROX 2 / 3 YEARS TO GET VIABLE PLANT AFTER GRAFTING. ANY HELP WITH THIS QUEST WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
Answers:
Try cuttings Now is the perfect time . If they will grow own-root, would be better plants than grafted . Take 3-4" cuttings from non-flowering tips .Remove any leaves that would be in the rooting media , & any vey soft tips of the cuttings . Dip in rooting hormone, & stick( several ) in a tray, pot, etc , filled with coarse vermiculite . Put a plastic bag over it, with a pencil or stick supporting the bag . Leave the bag open. Put it in bright, indirect light . Keep it moist, but not soggy . Mist several times /day, if possible . Should root in 6-8 weeks. After that you can pot them individually . Good luck
