Will using Bayer Advanced brush killer kill my trees?
Question:I have alot of brush and vines that I want to get rid of, but I do not want to kill the large trees in my yard. Thank you.
Answers:
Bayer's Advanced Brush Killer is an excellent product to eliminate brush and vines. The active ingredient "Triclopyr" was developed primarily for the purpose of controlling broad-leaved hard-to-kill perennials and, in my professional opinion, performs much better than Roundup.
When using this product, make sure you spray directly onto the vegetation you're trying to eliminate but DO NOT spray when there's a wind. I wouldn't be too concerned if some of the spray is deposited onto the bark/foliage of your trees.
USE WITH CAUTION:
When spraying the brush and vines around your trees, you'll need to spray in the early morning hours and not when it is warm. One of the problems with Triclopyr is that it is volatilized in warm weather and when trees are transpiring, the product is taken up into the canopy and may cause defoliation and in some cases, death. (I've seen large oak trees killed in this manner)
Another helpful tip for you. I'd recommend that you mix in a "spreader-sticker" (can be found at most garden centers) when using this product. The spreader-sticker helps make the spray mixture adhere to the plants better and more into the brush and vines rather than having it drip onto the soil.
IF you can't find the spreader-sticker, you can substitute it by adding some dishsoap (about 2 tablespoons) at the very end of mixing the triclopyr with water.
Any leftover product can be used on your lawn to eliminate broad-leaved weeds.
Hope this answers your question and any concerns you have about using this product. GOOD LUCK!

You spray this directly on the leafy brush and the chemical is absorbed into the plant. It will not harm your trees unless you overspray.
