Is sawdust a good mulch for tomatoes?

Question:I thought about mulching them with rotted sawdust since it has been so dry. When I water them the wated just rolls off the dirt!

Answers:
if it's good and rotted and is not Pine sawdust it will be ok, water them really well first and put down some newspapers first...I had good luck with it but you have to make sure it's rotten so it doesn't rob nutrients...good luck

Sawdust works fine. Just be sure to fertilize with a nitrogen fertilizer (the first number in a fertilizer mixture, like 12-12-12.)

Nitrogen tends to get depleted in the decomposition process of the sawdust.
