Once a pool is removed, how much topsoil should be used? Landscaper wants 6", but contractor said 3" max.

Question:Who is right?

Answers:
It all depends on the depth of the pool surface, if the substrate will be removed, the level of the yard, etc. If you put in just enough to come level with the ground then you will get settling and a dip in the yard. Put too much in and you will have a mound. I prefer to add a little too much and then level it off 2" higher than the rest of the lawn. With repeated watering and grass seed this will take down to the lawn level just fine.

Do the 6" as topsoil compacts over the years and gets poor when not enough.
Minimum of 6" just in case you want to till it up and plant a garden.
