How to get rid of cat urine odor outdoors?

Question:We don't own any cats (or any other animals) so I don't know why the local cats have started using a small patch of lawn right under my living room window as a bathroom. It smells terrible, I have tried the cat repellents sold in stores but it hasn't helped to keep them away. Now that the summer heat has arived the smell is really awful. Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the odor and to permanently discourage the cats?

Answers:
I had the same problem in the garden outside my kitchen window, yes the odor is simply terrible! Here's what I tried and so far it seems to be working. Also put in some new ideas for you. #1 seems to have helped with the smell after being used daily for a week straight.
If all else fails try the Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler.
Do a search on line to find the best price, but be prepared to spend up to $100 US from what I've seen. I found it at this link for $79.95 just now. If hubby weren't so cheap I would have bought this one myself LOL

1. I bought a large bottle of Goo Gone and squirted it (heavily) all around my bushes where they were urinating. Apparently cats don't care for strong citrus scents.
2. Install some lights that stay on at night in that area. This won't work for all cats though.
3.Check at wal mart, buy one of those little garden statues that make a sound when it detects motion. Not all cats will be afraid of this.
4. Remove any mulch if you have it in that area.
5. This sounds cruel but one tip I've found on line is to plant plastic forks in that area so the cats won't go there, I'd think they don't have to stick out of the ground very far to deter them?
6. Make sure you don't have any water or food source in that area.

Good luck!

This may sound strange but do you have any pine trees or pine like shrubs near the window?

I ask this because there are a few types of evergreen plants that put off a very simmilar yet pungent cat urine smell...
Get Odormute. Pour lots in the area and then place the repellent to keep them from returning.
