I just bought a new home and there is contractor seed for the yard. What type of seed would be a good replace
Question:This seed is bad grade and seems to be growing me lots of crab grass i have lots of bald spots. Best way to try to save my yard. Please help

Id go with two things right now. A little Scotts seed for shade and sun. Then pick up a bag of weed and feed. This will take care of the weeds you are picking up Im sure as well if you got cheap seed on there. Crab grass take it out put down some soil seed it and get on to the next. Bare spots take a iron rake to them break up the soil about 1/2 inch deep and then seed and pack it good in the ground. Water and it should be on its way. If you use high quality seed and products you will see good results with out much work. But remember to water that is the most important thing. Peace out.....
If I understand the question right, you're having a problem with bad seed in your lawn?
What you can do, as soon as you can, buy some good quality top soil, and grass seed. You can get a decent starter grass seed from any garden center. Cover bare areas with top soil, spread the seed generously over the yard, and tamp it down so the seed makes contact with the soil. Then you'll just have to be diligent about watering every day until the seeds germinate. Watering daily is important.
Youll need to get something for the crabgrass. As for seeding all brands of seed have the chance of growing weeds and crabgrass but I would recommend vigoro if you can get it.
As to the type of seed it varies depending on your climate/zone and wether its in the sun or shade or both.
