Shrubs for a hill?

Question:Does any one have any ideas of plants and shrubs I can grow? I have a 50 foot garden and at the end of it a hill about 50 foot in dept and quite steep? really would like anything for up there that is low maintenance but will grow the hill is about 40 foot accross! Quite a big hill!!

Answers:
Here in Texas our county uses decorative mulch, flowering purple sage bushes and ornamental tall grasses to keep some of the steeper freeway hills colorful and low maintenance. Established sage bushes and ornamental grasses are quite tolerant of low water conditions so little care is required.

I have a huge hillside behind my home as we live in a canyon. The builder planted acacia which is a rapid grower, drought tolerant and requires little maintenance. We go up there and hack a path through it for access every couple of years, but other than that, it just keeps growing, stays green and comes out with tiny little flowers in the spring.
You didn't say what area or zone, but there are many evergreen shrubs which are drought tolerant and hardy from 0 to 100F.
Eleagnus, or russian olive would be one. It gets no insect or disease problems, is a rapid grower, attracts birds, and gets as wide as it does tall. The flowers smell great, but aren't showy. It's a very inexpensive nursery plant because it's so easy to grow.

Research online shrubs for your hardiness zone.
