Why are the strawberries in my garden growing into a short squat shape rather than a cone shape?

Question:

Answers:
try giving them more water and perhaps a little fertiliser, tomato food works well. I do this at this time of year anyways as it helps to give larger fruit, and encourage the plants to produce for a bit longer. I don't know where you have them but if they are in a shady spot in the garden then their growth might be inhibited by this.
It should not matter too much what variety that you have as they all have a general look, even wild and alpine strawberries grow in the same way.
The only other things that i can think of is that the strawberry plants are runners from last year and are therefore still young. If this is the case pick the flowers off them and son't let them produce fruit this year. You wont get many from them this year anyway, and you'll have a far superior crop next year as all the plants energies are put into growing rather than cropping which is strenuous for a young plant. Alternatively the plants maybe 5 or 6 years old and far past their best which could be the problem. I crop my plants for 3 or 4 years then chuck them after that

hope that helps

doesnt the shape depend on the breed
if they are wild strawberries they do tend to be quite small and more rounded
It could depend on a lot of things, from the variety to the amount of water to the nutrients they receive. I'm sure they will still be good.
they are not finished. Are they still white?
