What should i do with my used landscape gravel?
Question:i'm digging up a bunch of decorative gravel from my back yard. i didn't want to throw it away. i was hoping to find another use or a way to recycle it. oh yeah, any good ideas on how to clean the extra dirt/leaves/twigs/worms/bugs that accumulate in the gravel?

I don't know how much you have, but here is what I did. I sifted it & carried it over in a plastic hospital pan, one-at-a-time. I built a driveway for my elderly neighbor AND got rid of the rocks! Oh, and I got a LOT of excersise in the process!
Go to www.craigslist.com and place an ad in your area for free gravel. You will get someone to come right to your home and pick it up.Be sure you have someone there when they arrive just for safety sake.Spread the gravel on your driveway and hose it down.
To remove the contaminants, pile it up and wash it with your garden hose. You will need to turn the pile over intemittently, but eventually most of the junk will precipitate.
Other uses for the stone might be:
- making drywells for your gutter downspouts.
- making a french drain in damp or wet areas of your property.
- advertise on Craigslist or Yahoo local and sell it or give it away.
