Pine trees will grow in sandy soil, they're growing around here and this is sandy soil where I live in California. You won't have a problem with mess in the pool as long as the branches aren't directly above the water. My parent's have an above-ground pool and many years ago the previous owner landscaped around the pool and planted a pine tree fairly near it and the deck around it. It has been beautiful, when you look at it while in the pool you can imagine being in the mountains. Nothing from the tree drops into the pool, a little drops onto the deck. There once was another tree farther from the pool that was a deciduous tree and that caused a ton of mess in the pool with leaves blowing in; that tree was cut down at some point in time.
they will grow in almost anything, the only problem is they take a long time to grow, so your talking 15ft tall in like 15-25 years. dont quote me but they take forever
Lawdy, think / find another tree. Pines will drop everything on the ground, pine needles, pine cones, sap. Plus, they have both shallow and deep roots. If your planning on putting in a pool, be prepared to 1, clean it daily (as your cussing the pines) and 2 just waiting for the roots to come through. Talk the pool people and the people that sell trees.
Here's a page that should help you out.
If you want a quick privacy screen, try arborvetum (I think that's the spelling).
These are cone shaped evergreens -- but they don't have the needles that pine trees have. They have softer foliage and grow tall rapidly. Each fills out to the sides somewhat, but they stay green and provide privicy top to bottom. I think they fall into the cedar family instead of 'evergreen'.
Pay attention to how close to the property line and pool you plant them, you don't want them to hang over the line and annoy the neighbors -- but that's true of all plantings.
Drive around in the country where you live. What you see is what will grow.
Hi, here in the UK the most popular evergreen hedging tree is called leylandii (pronounced lay-lan-dee-eye). It is an extremely fast growing conifer, so fast in fact that this it is the subject of many legal disputes here regarding blockage of light. However, the good thing about it is when it gets to the height you want just cut the top off and it stops. It will also grow in just about anything. Maybe you can find this in the US. Personally I prefer laurel hedging which is dense, easy to maintain albeit slower growing. Good luck.
Pines are not a very pretty tree - maybe rethink this one.
