How do the leaves that cover the corn affect it in any way?

Question:this is a project for school were suppose to grow a plant

Answers:
It's like a skin for the corn. It's their protection. If the husks were removed it would dry out and wouldn't have it's protection.

the leaves protect the corn from the sun, from bugs, from drying out... it keeps all the moisture in. and the leaves protect it form the sun by not drying it out and cooking it
The husks around the ear of corn is nature's way of protecting it from, dirt, flies, too much sun, bugs, etc. Think of it as an apple peel. The peel protects the fruit. Although some bugs can still get in, its the covering that allows the corn to mature until its time to plop it in boiling water, salt it up, butter it up, and play "typewriter chewer". Plus an ear of corn is the only thing that: You throw away the outside, eat whats inside, then throw away the inside.
