Answers:
Actually, you are a bit late for most spring/early summer crops in Texas. It gets so hot so quickly that most things will burn up before they bear fruit. Next year you need to start planning to plant around the first of March.
Take heart, you can still do well with black eyed peas and okra. You might also be able to do OK with some varieties of tomatoes depending on whether or not they will be shaded from the full merciless heat of the sun in July/August.
Try tomatoes, water melons and strawberries. These plants thrive under the sun well. Just water them regularly. You can also get them at your local wal-mart.
watermelons and pumpkins now --bit late hon --do not plant the watermelons and pumpkins close together or they will mix --my Dad did this years ago and had a mess--too late for strawberries as they mature in April and May--
