I need help with my lawn !?
Question:I applied scotts turfbuilder plus 2 ( fertilizer with weed and feed) to my lawn 4 days ago. I guess I over-applied it in some areas, and now I have some brown blotches throughout my lawn - I guess I burned it. What can I do to repair? What do I use or apply? Please help!!

Dont always assume you burned your grass. Give it plenty of water and if the brown spots dont go away, the next logical thing to move on is the possibility of grub worms. Talk to the specialists at your local garden center, perhaps you can lay diazanon down to rid of the grubs. Also if you have any animals that use the lawn as a bathroom spot, it will kill the grass also.
WATER, WATER, WATER. I bet you didn't water it enough. Get out there NOW.
.
Starters (same to prevent spots from doggy pee spots) wash down with good water hosing which will 'dilute' that area. If grass not returning on its own then you may have to 'til' or loosen up 2-4 inches soil (depending on severity) & mix in good brand basic potting soil. Reseed (possibly dust with very light coating of potting soil on new seeds - - if lots of birds or windy area).
Unfortunately, it's a bit too late to do anything
meaningful. However, what I would do is drench the affected areas, and remove the dead grass----
the grass will eventually come back this year.
Just make sure that when you fertilize next time,
make sure your spreader is set at the right setting.
Hope this helps----- I wish you the best!
Fantastic! The weeds are dying, so don't be alarmed. The product is working. It is doing what you bought it for.
What should happen is the weeds will gradually die as the turf density increases. The grass should grow and fill in the areas where the weeds are dying.
It looked like everyone was telling you to water, water, water...but the grass roots have to breath. A good rule of thumb is to water for one hour, one time, once a week.
I have a feeling you are going to end up with a beautiful lawn in no time flat. Keep it mowed and the brown, dead weeds won't be as noticeable.
Hope this helps.
Brown blotches, are they round or circular areas? If so, ask your self if there is any way you over applied the fert only in the brown areas. If not, then you may have brown patch, a fungus.Fertilizer some times feeds the disease like putting gas on a fire. You can find a fungicide for brown patch at most garden stores.
I would just water it constantly to dilute the fertilizer.
Apply grass seed to all brown areas and cover it lightly with a thin layer of soil and water frquently until the grass sprouts.
Flush it with a lot of water . Then scratch it up . Reseed if you want, or just wait for the rest of the grass to fill in the spots .
