Catch a swarm for free. The link below has a basic overview or you can get together with a local beekeepers' club and see if you can get some hands-on with them. If you want to buy package bees see if a local commercial beekeeper will order an extra package for you when he makes his yearly order. Packages can be ordered online but many places won't ship them. Order early though; if you want to receive a package next spring you need to have your order placed and paid for by this fall.
