Answers:
if your talking in your yard keep it mowed short, the spur of the plant is the seed, if you keep it mowed short enough they will never head to the seed part
spread lime on your yard it, it removes some of the acid sand spurs need alot of acidicy to survive
also if you mow with a bagger it helps collect the spurs
i have fought this for years and am finally making headway and enjoying a back yard barefooted
Welcome to the sandy areas of the south!! LOL!
I live in coastal NC...we have sand spurs everywhere...they are a terrible little "weed"...not much you can do...most of us here have very tough feet...and the others (and transplants from other areas) wear shoes if in a grassy area (or wooded area) that it is unknown if there are any or not...be careful if you have pets too...our dog gets them between her "toes"...just by wandering out in the yard with us...
I have never seen anything that would kill the stuff...
Im in Florida and we dig the plant up this time of the year careful not to drop the spur its the seed and put it in the trash can using a plastic bag. try to start using weed killer early in march and you can check with your ag agent for your state and they will tell you what to use to kill the sand spur but for this growining season all you can do is dig it up
