Rubber plant?

Question:rescued it a few years ago poor little thing had two little wilting leaves on it. but with a lot of tlc it's now like a triffid! nearly reaching the ceiling! can i cut a bit off the top for an off cut and plant another one or would that harm it?

Answers:
Only thing I will add is that you really dont have to worry about covering the wound.

The reason it is called a rubber tree is because its sap is rubber - I know that sounds weird, but if you touch it, youll see.

A rubber tree isa type of Ficus and all Ficus have this characteristic, rubber tree's just produce more so they are cultivated in order to produce rubber - yes, your shoe sole came from a rubber tree.

so, dont lick it cause that could be bad, but dont worry about sealing ti as you ahouldn't be cutting a branch thta is morethan half an inch thick and the rubber in the sap will seal the wound.

Lastly, I almost fell out of my chair in laughing in suprise when you sai Triffid.

but dont worry, the rubber tree will never chase you down and eat you!

well if ur putting another plant in the same thing then it won't have enough room.. plus the added plant will die because it isn't rooted in the dirt well. U should probably get another pot to plant another one it.. and it is ok to cut the top off of it.
most rubber plants have poision white fluid in them, cut the plant just above a bud put cut stem in water until it starts shooting new roots may be up to 6weeks then re pot,on end that u cut from quickly put damp kitchen paper over cut and seal with elastic band to stop leaking fluid, after week or so remove paper,i have 4 thriving rubber plants from cuttings
Rubber trees can easily grow 6 to 10 feet tall or more indoors if there is enough space. They can be pruned to reduce their size.
