Well first off, i work at sears, the only store that sells craftsman. If the mower is under one year old, take it to your nearest store or repair center. if not, you might want to try sending it off for repair. You could always call your local store and ask them for assistance also. email me if you need any more help about it = genrlrelee615@yahoo.com
take it to a sears store . sears will fix it or give you a new one , because sears guar. all craftman things weather you bought it there or not . no matter how old it is
Sounds like perhaps a clogged line or maybe the tank is not venting. Try starting the mower with the fuel cap off. If it runs then the tank is not venting properly and I would buy a new cap. If taking the cap off doesn't help try examining the rubber fuel lines perhaps there is debris in the line. Rubber fuel lines are cheap so either way it may be a cheap fix. Also, how old is the fuel? Sometimes older fuel tends to have moisture in it causing the engine to run poorly or not run at all (Like after storing it all winter). Good luck.
sounds like the points is no good
Is the spark plug good? Are the filters good? Was mixed fuel put in by mistake? Was the mower tipped over, to clean underneath?- If fuel is good, spark plug is good, filters are clean- not full of oil, then it may be an adjustment problem.
If mower is still inder warrenty take it in, other wise take to a local shop-small engine repair, call to find one that will give an estimate before working on it.
I ran into this problem several times over the years...and it usually boiled down to not draining the fuel tank at the ed of the season. After several years of doing this (or even one) the gaskets in the carb become stiff and/or brittle. I'm going to assume that you haven't messed with the adjustment screws on the carb...so there are a couple things you can try inexpensively.
Go to auto parts and get a spray can of carb cleaner...take air filter off and use the spray to prime carb and then try starting engine. You may have to do this several times but it may work...
If you're handy with tools and can follow directions...go to a sears store and get a carb re-build kit for your make and model. With this you get new gaskets, seals and valves. This is a hour or two job and has always worked for me in the past. Just for info purpose...if you do this...Your air/fuel mixture adjustment is important after the rebuild...usually 1 to 1 and 1/2 turns out as a start point.
There is a product called STA-BIL sold at parts store (and much cheaper at wal-mart) ...it's a fuel additive...add a bit of it to the carb (with fuel) at end of season...it works.
Hope this helps
