Bugs In My Garden! Please Help Identify and say are they friend or foe? (Photo Included)?
Question:I have a vegetable/fruit/herb garden and I have found it infested with some kind of bug. They are less than 1/4" (0.6cm) long, have small wings, and their bodies appear black with white stripes. I do see them flying around but more often than not I seen tens if not hundreds of them walking around on the soil.
I also see what I suspect are small ones, eggs perhaps, white specks that seem to stick to my plants (especially my mint plant). I see tiny green bugs as well, I cant tell if they are the same as these or younger, but they don't look like the descriptions I have seen of aphids.
I captured one of them and took some photos. I need to understand what they are, what problems they might pose to my growing garden and me, as well as how to get rid of them if need be.

They appear to be thrips and they're not good for your garden. I've found that a combination of 1 Tbs of Murphy's Oil Soap & 2 Tbs of a fertilizer like Peter's Professional or Miracle Grow sprayed on the plants will get rid of just about anything - including very stubborn Mexican bean beetles.
that's so disgusting, y is it on ur finger, wat if it's a tick or something
Sorry I can't identify your bug. If you don't get a good answer here, take a sample to your local County Extension Agent. They should be able to help you.
Thanx. Now I'm gonna have nightmares.
I'm not quite sure what kind of bug this is but I definately know that it is not a tick. Since you have this insect I would bring it to a local nursery they may be able to identify what it is and what to use. I find Ortho products, which can be found at places like Walmart, are good powders and sprays that can help.
