What is the scientific difference between a weed and a wildflower?

Question:

Answers:
No scientific difference, only one of perception. ~

Ashley,
Location, location, location . . . . Other than that, there isn't one, scientifically. Great question!!
A wildflower is pretty but may be considered a weed if it is growing in your formal flower bed. There isn't a scientific difference.
No difference whatsoever. A weed is simply a plant growing where it is not wanted. All cultivated plants started life as "weeds", growing wild in some scruffy place ! Plants I treasure are dug up and burned by African farmers.
A weed and a wildflower are both just plants. If the prettiest flower in the world popped up in a row of corn, it would be a weed.
The definition of a weed is any plant growing in an inconvenient place. Some flowers have the name weed, for instance the beautiful Butterfly Weed. That doesn't make them a weed. Or Joe Pye Weed.
So a direct answer to your question is - - - none.
If I planted it, it's a flower. If I didn't, it's a weed.
