Help Ants with wings?
Question:I'm in the U.K & I have just gone out to hang out my washing and I noticed there were loads of flies buzzing around. I look to the floor and the paving stones and grass is shimmering with ants and winged ants, this wasnt there yesterday, any ideas how to get rid of them.

had a massive problem with this last night as i discovered.
i have located the nest in my garden and done the usual pour the boiling water routine, however,
if this doesn't work i'm told B&Q do a really good pest remover for the home that you put around the edges of your garden and home. it's in powder form so quite how it catches the flying ants i'm not sure but i'm reliable told it works. will find out the name and repost an answer, but maybe you could pop to your local B*Q and ask them if one's close.
good luck, watch out they bite and it hurts!
Tell em to feck off or you'll ave em!
I have been trying for years, It's the females leaving the colony to start a new one, They will be gone in a few days
They'll disappear on their own, we often get them in their hoardes, but the go away as quickly as they come.
You always get them in July or August. They are just flying ants. I can't believe you've not seen them before. They will be gone tomorrow.

It'll only last a couple of days, bare with it.

boil a kettle and pour the boiling water onto the ones on the paving and floor . Hopefully the rest of them will be gone soon anyway.
The sight of flying ants in and around the home alarms most people. Contrary to popular belief, flying ants are not always a sign of termites or termite infestations in a home.
Too much to copy/paste from web page ...
Any otc pesticide will kill them. They could be termites though, you may want to gather up a few in a plastic bag and let your co. agent look at them, or your friendly Pest Control operator.
If its an ant-you will see 3 distinct body parts, a head, a thorax, and an abdomen, and it will also have elbowed antenna, and 2 short wings and 2 long wings. If its a termite it will have a straight slender body, you can't hardly tell where one part stops and the other starts. It will have 4 equal wings and antenna that looks like a row of beads.
What you see is a swarm. It happens every day. Don't be too alarmed. If they are swarming "inside" your home-call a pro to look at it.
It's my understanding that if it is ants, they'll be gone soon. If it's termites, soon you won't see them, but they won't be gone.
I recommend you verify 100% if it's ants or if it's termites.
We get them every year, they wll go away in a day or two. Great if you have a pond, fish love them!
This happened to us on Sunday night, they all hatch at once when the climate is just right, they don't live long and will soon just disappear. If you can find the nest then put some ant powder or boiling water.
get some ant killer that they'll take back to the nest. It's quite usual for there to be loads of ants flying in hot weather so don't panic.. if they're on concrete you can pour boiling water on them.
Remove all paving stones and grass. Replace with an anteater stuffed with high explosive when the ants attack detonate the anteater. Alternatively, use a real anteater...or just the explosives.
Usually the winged ants are the emerging queen ants and they are swarming like the bees do. They are going to fly, mate, lose their wings, and start a new colony. Should not have any after a few days.
