How to keep ants out of my hummingbird feeder?

Question:

Answers:
My mother used to have 10 hummingbird feeders spread throughout our backyard and she tried a variety of methods ...

1.If your feeder is a window unit you can use a piece of chalk to draw a line around the feeder. For some reason ants will not cross a chalk line

2. If the feeder hangs from a branch or a pole you can grease the top of the pole with unscented vasoline. Again, the ants wont cross this

3. Whatever type of feeder you have you can smear liquid dish detergent on the bottom of the feeder and on the top (Any where except the actual feeder holes ... be careful not to get anything in the food).

4. Also, many feeders have an ant dam built in ... make sure to keep it filled with soapy water to deter any creepy crawlys from helping themselves to your sweet nector.

Cover the hanger/chain/string with petroleum jelly. The ants won't walk through it.
There's a product called "ant dam" that you fill with water and hang above your feeder. Many feeders have an ant dam built into the top. You fill it with water and the ants can't get to the feeder. Hope that helps and good luck.
I had that problem and I took Vaseline and put it on the string that the feeder hung from. They get caught on it and can't move.Just be sure to check it often when it fills with ants, the other ones walk over the stuck ones.hope this helps.
Vaseline any where along the trail of the lonesome ant will do the trick. It's too sticky-slippery to walk on but they will try to go around it if given a chance. If you can get rid of the ants that will also do the trick.
