What can I do to improve the drainage problems in my backyard?

Question:My yard is like a swamp everytime it rains hard. And I am having a hard time growing grass.

Answers:
Is the water running in from another yard, if so you may divert the flow with drains or using dirt to terrace your yard. If the rain if from your yard then you might level the yard with fill dirt, or use ground drains to carry the water to a lower area where it will flow away from your house and the back yard. I like the ground drains better than french drains because they are like floor drains and the water goes directly into the pipe and away rather than seeping into the ground and entering the pipes.

French drain is the only answer. It will get the water away quickly and allow your yard to grow grass instead of water lilies.
