What is the proper way to get rid of a small can of petrol?

Question:its been lying in the shed without a lid and its dirty so we cant use it for our lawnmower.

Answers:
if it's contaminated with no hope of saving it, best bet would be to try a local garage, they tend to be able to dispose of oil, petrol etc as they have to deal with it sometimes anyway.

I think you have to take it to your local recycling tip/dump. they dispose of oil so I assume they do the same with petrol.
I would keep it, its handy for cleaning things, like removeing tar.
Take it down to the local tip and dispose of it in the oil recycling tank.
Maybe you could filter it and then use it in your lawnmower.
Put it in the fuel tank ?!?!?!?!?!?
take it to a local lube shop they can the ablity to dispose of properly . .
